  • Jean Foster is hosting monthly brainstorm meetings to network with PE/Health teachers. The next one is scheduled for January 26th at 7:15am. Please contact Jean Foster from the ISD for the virtual meeting link if you are interested.
  • The next mental health roundtable will be later today on January 25, 2022. Our High School counselors plan to attend this virtually.
  • The district Sexual Education Advisory Board has been meeting to review materials. Updated videos and curriculum will be proposed to the superintendent and board of education for approval. Instruction is being suggested for 5th grade boy and girl maturation lessons, 6th grade HIV instruction, and an updated video and PowerPoint for 8th grade HIV instruction. Public viewings of the proposed material will be held on January 27th at 9am and February 8th at 3:30pm.

2.  K-12 Communications: High School Topics

  • Leadership update was given by Gabe Giarmo. There are two large leadership classes this semester, which is great. The classes will be beginning the opioid and pill initiative and in March begin spring planning. Many events such as a student/staff softball game, student carnival, and additional initiatives take place in the spring.
  • Curriculum/Assessment Changes/Needs and/or Updates
    • Inspire Biology update was given. There will not be a pilot for this during the 2nd semester, instead the classroom teacher would rather have access to additional labs and web-based labs. We will investigate this further and update the proposal in the spring.
    • Welding textbook update was given. Books have been ordered and should arrive anytime. The welding classes will begin using the new book during the 2nd semester.
  • Counselors are busy with schedule changes and following up with students who may have failed during the 1st semester. They will also be conducting class presentations in the coming weeks to begin planning for next year.
  • The Cash Campaign is coming up. Students will have time to complete their FAFSA and apply for scholarships. There will also be an opportunity to win a scholarship for those who participate.
  • Links are set up for the 2nd semester and have been meeting with Mrs. Becker.

3.   K-12 Communications: Middle School Topics

  • Curriculum/Assessment Changes/Needs and/or Updates

Materials have arrived and teachers will be starting to use the program for 2nd semester. The 6th grade science teacher was also interested in piloting a unit so an additional unit was ordered and will be piloted this semester as well. Student data and feedback will be collected and shared in the spring regarding this program.
    • English update – teachers have been working together on common rubrics, language, and materials. There is a need for an 8th grade writing curse next year due to a larger class size, a proposal will be coming at a future meeting.
