Spreadsheet and Graphs
Directions for
Putting Data on a Spreadsheet and Creating Graphs

Goal: To utilize information gathered on a spreadsheet to create two different graphs, a bar graph and a line graph.

Directions:

Entering the Data:
1. Begin Microsoft Office Excel 2007
2. In cell A1, type your name
3. In cell A3, type ‘Hobbies’
4. In cell B3, type ‘Girls’
5. In cell C3, type ‘Boys’
6. In cells A4 – A11 type in the list of hobbies, in cells B4 - B11 list the Girls' totals, and in cells C4 - C11 list the Boys' totals provided below:

7. You may have to make Column A wider by clicking your mouse between the A and B columns and dragging to the width needed.

Creating the Column Graph:
1. Highlight the cells containing your information (A3 to C11)
2. Click on the Insert Tab
3. Choose Column; then select the first choice under 3-D Column

Title and Axis Labels
1. Click on the Layout Tab
2. Click on Chart Title: Above Chart
3.
Type in ‘5th Grade Hobbies’ in the space provided for a Chart Title
4. Click on Axis Titles: Primary Horizontal Axis Title: Title Below Axis: and type in 'Hobbies'
5. Click on Axis Titles: Primary Verticle Axis Titles: Rotated Title: and type in 'Votes'

Creating the Line Graph
1.
Repeat directions 1-3 above (for Column Graph), but choose Line: 2-D Line: Line With Markers for the chart type
2. Move your Line Chart directly below your Column Chart
3. Follow directions 1-5 above to add a title and axis labels to your Line Chart,

Getting Your Graphs Graded:
1. Your Graphs should look similar to the example provided to the right
2. Be sure to have capitalized all titles and hobbies
3. Raise your hand and Mrs. LaVigne-Benore will come and grade your graphs on your computer
