Flip For Jokes
Directions for Creating a Joke Fact Flipper

Goal: Create a Fact Flipper, a PowerPoint presentation with six question slides and six answer slides, printed in handouts six per page. The first six slides on page one are the question slides; that page is then glued to page two which contains six answer slides. The end product will be a page that enables students to read questions and lift the flaps to find the answers.

Directions:

  1. You will select 6 jokes from the Ducksters website; there are many categories at this site and you may choose jokes from many different categories or from one in particular to create a themed Fact Flipper.  When you find jokes that you like, copy and paste them onto a word processing document so that you can use them later. Save your jokes!
  2. Begin a blank PowerPoint presentation
  3. For each slide, you will choose the 'Title Only' slide layout (*Note - when using this type of slide, you will have to click on the striped text box border - NOT the handlebars - and drag your text box down to the middle of the slide.)
  4. Set up the information on your 12 slides as follows:

    Slide 1 = Joke prompt
    Slide 2 = Joke prompt
    Slide 3 = Joke prompt
    Slide 4 = Joke prompt
    Slide 5 = Joke prompt
    Slide 6 = Joke prompt
Slide 7 = Answer to Slide 1 Joke
Slide 8 = Answer to Slide 2 Joke
Slide 9 = Answer to Slide 3 Joke
Slide 10 = Answer to Slide 4 Joke
Slide 11 = Answer to Slide 5 Joke
Slide 12 = Answer to Slide 6 Joke

  5. Add graphics - on slides 7-12 add graphics to compliment your joke topics - Click on the Insert Tab: Clip Art and search
  6. We will print this PowerPoint as Handouts - Six Slides per page
  7. Page one - cut a slit on the two sides and bottom of each slide square to create flaps
  8. Glue page one on top of page two so that you can read the joke prompt, lift the flap, and get the answer!
