5th Grade Computers Curriculum

Explanation:
Computers is a 9 week rotation class offered to fifth grade students.
Through this class, students will work with a variety of software programs.

Although the course moves quickly, students are able to work at their own pace and improve upon their skills using computer technology.  Students will also work on keyboarding and improving their typing skills.

Most importantly, I want students to leave this rotation feeling confident that they could problem solve their way through most computer programs and successfully complete projects/assignments.

The computer curriculum is based on the Michigan Educational Technology Standards.

Projects:

Students will complete a variety of projects during this course including the following:
  • General word processing
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Calendar
  • Painting
  • Concept map/graphic organizer
  • Internet searches
  • Data collection
  • Spreadsheet and graphs
  • Inserting and designing a table
  • Accessing online tutorials
  • Creating digital media
  • Designing avatars

Grading, Points, and Revising:
Throughout the course, students are encouraged to revise their work. All assignments are graded on a 5 point scale and students are always told exactly what the requirements are to earn a desired score. If a student scores any lower than a 5, then they have the opportunity to revise that assignment and turn it in for a higher grade.
