Three years
You will need to create three
references that could tell an employer something positive about
you. Many application forms will have a place to list up to three
references. Other employers will ask you for a list of
references.
If an employer asks for references, he or she will call the people
that you list and ask about you. It is best not to use a relative for
a reference because they are not necessarily unbiased.
Talk to the person that you want to use as a reference first. Ask
them if it would be O.K. to use them as a reference. This way, they
won’t be surprised when they receive a call from your
prospective employer.
